The Current Best defender of 2017-18 season
Defenders
are the perennial back ups of any football team. They are generally the
unsung heroes of a team and the first ones to be blamed even for the
smallest error.
As usual there are a bunch
of ageing veterans from Italy who will always rank among the best. Then
there are quite a few who are effective in the Premier League and La
Liga.
But the one that stands out is the young Frenchman - Samuel Umtiti. He has been exceptional for FC Barcelona and France.

His
solidity, his patience, his well timed tackles, his darting runs
forward - have been outstanding.
Apart from Ter Stegen and Messi, he is
one of the main reasons why Barca is topping the Spanish League and
doing well in the Champions League. If there is one area he needs to
improve upon - its his scoring ability from set pieces which would
actually make him peerless.
So for me - this season Umtiti is the undisputed kind of defense.
