Andre Gomes was at the top of his game in Valencia but at Barcelona they have failed to find the right spot for him. Overall its a combination of circumstances and bad utilization that led to Gomes sticking out like a sore thumb in the scheme of things, which is very sad, because he is a talented player.

After 2 years, I still dont know where he actually fits in the team. Players like Paulinho, Vidal, Dembele, Semedo, Vermaelen and even Deulofeu seem to have adapted much better than Andre Gomes, despite less playing time and at times unsuitable positioning.

As a player, Andre Gomes lacks speed, gives away the ball constantly and that affects the flow of the team when they attack swiftly. Whenever he comes in, he gets at least one great chance to score or assist, which he mostly fluffs and that adds to the woes. The fans find it very jarring.

Every time Gomes comes in, there is a collective anxiety among the fans as he doesn't exude the solidity and confidence. Being constantly under the radar of the fans and the media have not helped at all.

The picture that we get is that Gomes does not contribute much to this team. As far as I can remember, the only time his slow, waiting game paid off was in the 2nd Clasico of last season when he waited and waited, for what looked like ages, and then passed it to the sprinting Alba, which ended in the winning goal. Otherwise it’s been very lackluster and insipid performances from Gomes till date.

The lack of playing time and bad positioning have affected his confidence and as a result he seems a misfit in FC Barcelona. Given the time he has spent at Barcelona and the way things are moving, its high time he chooses to move away for his own good.
